About Joann

I help WOC struggling with negative self-talk rewrite their narratives by exploring their unique experiences, challenges, and strengths.

Joann Nguyen, LMSW

Do you have a hard time saying no? Do you feel like you’re constantly racing against time? Do you ask yourself, “Am I good enough?”

As the eldest sister and daughter of Vietnamese immigrants, I carry a deep understanding of what it means to hold it all together—for your family, your culture, your future. Growing up in the Bronx, I learned how to move between two powerful worlds—the richness and resilience of my Vietnamese heritage and the unrelenting pace of the city. In both spaces, emotions were often quietly endured rather than openly expressed. That silence shaped me, and ultimately fueled my calling to hold space where emotions are not only welcomed, but deeply honored. As a neurodivergent woman of color, I also understand what it means to navigate the world with layered identities, deep sensitivity, and a mind that moves differently—faster in some ways, deeper in others.

I offer therapy for people who are ready to do the work—not in the sense of grinding harder, but in slowing down enough to reconnect with themselves. Many of my clients are insightful, intellectual, and reflective. They tend to analyze everything, yet still feel emotionally disconnected or stuck. I work well with individuals who are beginning to realize that thinking alone isn’t enough to shift what lives deeper within them. If you’re someone who overthinks and over-feels all at once, I get it—and I’m here to help you make sense of both. I work best with clients who are ready to put themselves first, to stop centering everyone else’s needs, and to begin tending to their own healing with intention and courage.

You deserve someone who will meet you where you are—with clarity, compassion, and honesty. Whether you’re processing anxiety, grief, identity, trauma, or a longing you can’t quite name, I offer a space where your emotions are not too much, your insight is honored, and your growth is inevitable.

Your emotions are valid, and your story deserves to be heard. Let's walk this path together. Schedule a free 15-min consult with our team here to begin working with me.

I'm dedicated to helping you unveil your inner strength, and unlock your potential for positive change.

My approach is warm, intuitive, and gently challenging. I tend to nudge my clients toward the truths they’re circling, and I offer grounded support as they begin to own those truths. I see therapy as a collaborative and transformative process. While I may draw from modalities like parts work (IFS), psychodynamic exploration, narrative therapy, somatic awareness, and mindfulness-based practices, my work is deeply relational. It's also shaped by attachment-focused therapy, inner child work, and trauma-informed care. I center cultural humility, decolonizing practices, and ancestral wisdom, honoring the layers of identity and intergenerational experience each client brings. Whether you're exploring your story for the first time or reconnecting with parts of yourself that have been silenced, we’ll move at a pace that respects both your nervous system and your capacity for growth. I don’t subscribe to a one-size-fits-all model—our work together will be uniquely tailored to your needs, lineage, and lived experience.

Not-so-fun fact:  My friends regularly text me to confirm whether Mercury is in retrograde before they blame anything on their life decisions.
